Corso Race Car Design, Engineering and Development

The Race Car Design, Engineering and Development course, developed by MTS in collaboration with Tatuus, is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the process that takes an idea from concept to a fully built racing car.

The programme guides students through the key stages of design, development, prototyping, manufacturing, industrialisation and assembly of a competition vehicle, exploring the relationship between the technical office decisions and the requirements of both the production department and the teams that will race the car on track.

Over 104 hours of training, students will gain in-depth knowledge of materials and manufacturing technologies, composites, aerodynamics, electronics, power unit, vehicle dynamics, suspension systems and production-oriented CAD design.

Part of the programme will take place directly at the Tatuus facility, where students will experience first-hand the working dynamics of a company specialised in the design and manufacturing of competition vehicles, including a dedicated session on single-seater assembly.

The objective is to understand not only how a racing car is designed, but above all how engineering decisions must be balanced against manufacturability, technical regulations, performance targets, reliability, cost management and the real-world needs of the teams.

Experiential Learning

The course allows students to go beyond university theory and understand how engineering knowledge is applied when a single-seater must actually be designed, manufactured, assembled and raced on track. A programme built for those who want to turn their technical skills into preparation that meets the real demands of the motorsport industry.

104 Hours of Training

The Master takes place over weekends, from Friday to Sunday, for a total of 104 hours spread across 5 weeks from June to July, alternating between the MTS facility and the Tatuus facility.

Selected Participants

Since 2011, MTS has developed a refined selection process to ensure that only candidates with the specific technical requirements are admitted to the Master — with the goal of producing, at the end of the programme, outstanding professionals ready to enter the industry.

What to expect during and after the course

Who is it intended for?

The course is primarily aimed at Mechanical Engineering graduates and final-year students and at candidates with a solid background in vehicle dynamics and aerodynamics, who have already gained project experience in the automotive and motorsport fields.

Instructors

The instructors are professionals specialising in the various areas of motorsport engineering and production, with hands-on experience in the design, manufacturing and assembly of racing cars. A multidisciplinary approach that allows students to look at the race car from different perspectives: designer, manufacturer, technician and end user.

Weekend format

Classes take place at the weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), making it possible for those who work or study during the week to attend as well.

Field visits

Le lezioni si svolgono nella sede principale di MTS a Lesmo, un polo formativo all’avanguardia attrezzato con utensili di ultima generazione, e di Tatuus a Lainate.

Payment in installments

Students have the option of paying for the course in three installments, in order to accommodate everyone’s needs.

After the course?

Students enrolled in the course will have the opportunity to interview with Tatuus, which will offer the top-performing student an internship within the company.
